About Big River Animal Society

Our Mission

The overall mission of Big River Animal Society is to save the lives of homeless animals, particularly those forsaken, abused and broken in body and spirit by offering immediate shelter, compassionate care and rehabilitation in a safe environment.

Our Pledge

We pledge to reduce the number of animals killed each year in shelters by providing wellness and rehabilitation, owner retention support, promoting responsible spay/neuter and offering educational opportunities throughout our community.

Our Purpose

The creation of a safe haven or sanctuary in a rural, natural environment to provide temporary or permanent refuge and healing to animals in need.

Our Fundamental Principals

Respect for Life

Practicing, promoting and teaching love, kindness and respect toward nature and all living creatures.

Providing the best care and quality of life for the animals in our charge.

Bringing people and animals together to enrich each other’s lives, in addition to providing therapeutic “healing connection” programs.

Providing life-saving, low-cost spay/neuter and micro-chipping for pets.

Providing animal-centered educational programs to raise awareness and teach our youth the importance of animal welfare and kindness.

Staying abreast of animal welfare issues and advocating for positive changes.

Continuing to learn and practice methods that will allow us to one day operate our sanctuary and its programs successfully while respecting our environment.
